Walks & Hikes, Wenham

A lovely woods walk in Wenham that’s accessible to all ages and abilities

TOWN:Wenham
WHAT:A fully-accessible woods walk in Wenham
WHY:This quiet corner of Wenham can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of abilities

Woods walks on Boston’s North Shore are often a bit rugged. Trails can cover ‘rocky & rooty’ terrain, and it can get wet in places, too. That’s what makes the Massachusetts Audubon Cedar Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Wenham so special. It includes the thoughtfully-designed nearly 1-mile Woodland Loop that follows a wide, level, hard-packed trail, with a rope railing to help guide the sight-impaired. This is a ‘first’ in the area as far as I know, and provides a welcome destination for multi-generations of all abilities.

Beyond the accessible loop, the Meadow Pond Loop connects to the Cedar Pond Loop for more mobile adventurers. It traipses through wetlands and circumnavigates Cedar Pond, with a couple of options for hikers returning to the Woodland Loop. You can easily walk it in a hour.

Cedar Pond is accessed off of Route 1A in Wenham via Cherry Street. It is another example of the many hidden gems on the North Shore.
