Winter

The North Shore's off-season is full-on for the adventurous

TOWN: ALL
WHAT:All you love about classic New England get-aways, but closer
WHY:Hiking, skiing, museums, lively bars, cozy inns and great restaurants beckon

Call it the off-season, but if you're looking for fun things to do, the North Shore of Boston is full-on in the wintertime. The same restaurants and bars you enjoy in the summer are easier to get into, the outdoors puts on its winter coat and our museums are welcome respites from the cold.

While changing weather patterns mean that snow is less likely to blanket the area, if you keep an eye on accumulations you'll have a chance to get out on your cross-country skis at the Grass Rides, Appleton Farms or Bradley Palmer State Park.

Or plan a fun get-away day, starting with breakfast at a local eatery, a visit to one of our engaging museums or a walk around a historic district, then top off the day with a memorable dinner at one of our many fine restaurants.

You'll discover that enjoying winter in New England doesn't require a 3 hour drive. A spirit of adventure will do just fine!
